Q:

I always wanted happiness in my life, and I thought I'd found it with my boyfriend. But now he's left me, and I'm so confused. I'm not sure why I'm writing, but I just don't know where I'm headed.

Recently, we’ve all seen the tragic news from Japan, where thousands lost their lives in a devastating earthquake and tsunami. People there thought they’d built their houses on solid ground, but sadly they were wrong. Let’s continue praying for those who survived.

Why do I mention this? The reason is because this is a picture of what can happen to us. You see, we don’t only build our houses on a foundation of stone or concrete, but we also build our lives on a foundation — a foundation of beliefs and values that we hope will bring us happiness. Tragically, however, many people build on a false foundation, pursuing money or sex or entertainment, or countless other things they hope will give lasting happiness — but never will. I fear this could happen to you.

Only God can give us the moral and spiritual foundation we need for our lives. This is why the most important step you can take is to turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him. When you do, God will forgive your sins and make you His child forever. He also promises to be with you in the future. By a simple prayer of faith ask Him to come into your life today.

Then seek God’s will for your life — and don’t be afraid to follow it, even if it seems painful at the time. God loves you, and His way is always best. The Bible says, “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom” (Isaiah 33:6).
