Last year, a friend talked me into getting involved in a business deal that wasn't exactly legal. The deal hasn't worked out, and now I'm afraid we're going to get caught. Will God get me out of this if I sincerely promise to do what's right in the future?

I’ve often said that one of life’s hardest lessons is that we cannot change the past, nor can we escape the consequences of what we’ve done. The Bible’s teaching is clear: “You may be sure that your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).

But shouldn’t you turn to God and give your life to Jesus Christ anyway, even if He doesn’t choose to change your situation? Of course you should, because you need Him every day. Think how different your life would be right now if you had put God’s will at the center of your life years ago and decided to follow Him every day. And what dangers will you face in the future, if you continue to leave God out of your life?

I can’t promise that God will extract you from your present difficulties (although He may). But I can promise this: If you open your heart to Christ and commit your life to Him, God will forgive your sins and set your feet on a new path—a path that leads to eternal life. Perhaps God has allowed this to happen so He can get your attention and make you realize your need of Him. Don’t ignore His voice!

By a simple prayer of faith you can confess your sins to God and ask Christ to come into your life today—and this is what I urge you to do. Because Christ died and rose again for us, “we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:4).
