Q:

Did you read the story about a man who claims to be God, and says he is the successor to Jesus? He seems to be very sincere about it, and he's managed to convince his followers also. Could he be right?

A:

No, he is not right–and one reason is because the Bible clearly teaches that when Jesus comes again, He will descend from the heavens with power and glory. The Bible says, “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him” (Revelation 1:7).

When Jesus first entered the world, He came as a baby, born in obscurity and weakness. His life was spent in humility, and He willingly submitted to the horrors of the cross for our salvation. But His second coming will be much different, for then He will come to rule over the world in power and justice. When He ascended into heaven after His resurrection, the angels told His disciples, “This same Jesus … will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11).

Jesus warned that from time to time false messiahs would appear, leading many people astray by their claims. He warned us not to be misled by them. He said, “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them” (Luke 21:8).

Only Jesus Christ is worthy of our allegiance, for only He was God in human flesh sent from heaven to save us from our sins. And someday He will come again, and those who follow Him will be with Him forever. Will you be among them? Don’t let another day go by without giving your life to Christ.
