Q:

Do you think we'll get to meet all kinds of famous people when we get to heaven? I'd love to find out what they were really like, and learn about the things they did while they were on earth that didn't make it into the history books.

A:

The Bible does indicate that we will recognize others in heaven, including not only our loved ones but other people as well. Presumably, therefore, we could have an opportunity to meet some who were famous on earth and are now in heaven.

Even now, the Bible says, “we are surrounded by … a great cloud of witnesses”–that is, those who have been faithful to God across the ages and have already entered heaven (Hebrews 12:1). When Jesus was transfigured or changed into His heavenly glory before the eyes of some of His disciples, we are told that “there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus” (Matthew 17:3). These passages suggest we will be recognized in heaven.

Yes, I look forward to meeting men and women in heaven who loved God and served Him faithfully during their time on earth. What a privilege it would be to meet the Apostle Paul, or Peter, or others who served God over the centuries! And I look forward to meeting people whose names never made it into the history books but were still “faithful, even to the point of death” (Revelation 2:10).

But our focus in Heaven won’t be on others but on Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “we know that when he appears … we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). Have you prepared for that day by giving your life to Him?
