Q:

Do you think we're possibly living in the last days, and that Jesus is going to return to earth very soon? Frankly, I don't see any other solution to all the problems we have in the world, do you?

A:

Yes, the world’s problems are almost overwhelming–and not just because of the wars and conflicts that grab the headlines. Every day, millions of people all over the world face a host of other disasters: famine, disease, economic chaos, racism, ecological and natural catastrophes, and so forth.

Do these mean Jesus’ second coming is very near? It certainly may be, because He indicated that just before He comes again the world ‘s problems will increase. He declared, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places” (Matthew 24:7). While these problems are part of every age, the Bible says they will increase in intensity toward the end.

And yes, you are right: The only final answer to our problems is Jesus Christ, for when He comes again, He will rule the world with perfect justice and peace. In that day, the Bible says, “He will reign … with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever” (Isaiah 9:7).

The Bible cautions us against trying to set the date for Jesus’ second coming. But it also urges us to be ready and watchful “while we wait for the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Are you ready for that day? You can be, by committing your life to Christ today.
