Q:

Friends have told me I need to give my life to Jesus, and they're probably right because I've had sort of a mixed-up life. But how do they expect me to give my life to Jesus if I don't know how? Maybe you can tell me.

A:

I’m thankful your friends are concerned about you—and I’m thankful also that you realize they may have an answer to your problems. God loves you, and He truly wants to help you.

How can you give your life to Jesus? Let me illustrate it this way. I notice you are married, but how did you get that way? At first, you barely knew your future husband, but later you realized you loved each other, and you decided you wanted to commit your lives to each other. But you weren’t really married until you stood together and said, “I do,” committing yourselves to each other as long as you both would live.

Becoming a Christian is somewhat like this. God loves you, and the proof is that He sent His Son into the world to take away all your sins through His death on the cross. The Bible says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10). God loves you this much!

Now He invites you to respond to His love by committing yourself to Jesus Christ. Just as you said, “I do” to your husband, so now He invites you to say, “I do” to Christ. By a simple prayer of faith ask Him to come into your life today—and He will. No matter what your past has been, God will forgive it, and He will set your feet on a new path. Begin your new life today by saying yes to Jesus.
