Q:

How do you know the Bible isn't just a series of stories or myths that people made up? Maybe Jesus didn't even live, for all we know today.

A:

I don’t know of a single serious scholar today–either believer or unbeliever–who would deny that Jesus existed, and that He walked the roads of Palestine in the opening decades of the first century. They would agree that the evidence is simply too overwhelming to come to any other conclusion.

Nor do I know of a single serious scholar today–believer or unbeliever–who would claim that the Bible is simply a collection of myths or fictional stories. The Bible is rooted in history, and from one end to the other it recounts real events in the lives of real people, and recorded by real eyewitnesses. As one of the New Testament writers declared, “We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (2 Peter 1:16).

The real issue for you, however, is this: Are you willing to face the evidence, wherever it might lead you? Or have you closed your heart and mind to what God wants to teach you? Only you can answer this, of course–but don’t deceive yourself, and don’t turn your back on God just because you want to run your own life.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). God loves you (whether you realize it or not), and life’s greatest joy comes from knowing Him and fulfilling His plan for your life. I invite you to investigate Jesus Christ for yourself–and then to give your life to Him.
