Q:

Is it possible for someone to get their faith back once they've lost it? Or has God given up on them? I know I need God, but He must be mad at me for the way I've treated Him.

A:

One of the devil’s oldest tricks is to tell us God is so angry at us that He’ll never forgive us. But this is not what the Bible says. God loves you and He wants to forgive you and welcome you back to Himself. Don’t misunderstand me–sin is serious, and when we turn away from God, He hates what we have done. We have lost sight today of God’s anger at sin, and the fact that some day sin will be judged. We think God is weak and sentimental, winking at sin and not willing to do anything that might hurt us. But God is holy and just, and He sees sin for what it really is: an act of rebellion against our Creator. The Bible warns, “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).

But listen: One reason God hates sin so much is because of what it does to you and me! He loves us and He knows that sin destroys us. That is why Jesus Christ came into the world–to provide a way for us to be saved. God promises all who repent and turn to Him, “I will not carry out my fierce anger. … For I am God, and not man–the Holy One among you” (Hosea 11:9). Don’t let another day go by without Christ. Instead, tell God you are sorry for your sins and you want to turn from them, and then ask Christ to come into your life as your Lord and Saviour. No, it isn’t too late to make your peace with God. Give your life to Jesus Christ today.
