Q:

I know people say God's way is best for us, but I don't believe it. I think I'm the only one who knows what's best for me -- not some vague, distant spirit who doesn't care what happens to us. Why bother with God?

A:

If God were only “some vague, distant spirit who doesn’t care what happens to us,” then I’d agree with you; it wouldn’t make sense to bother with Him.

But God isn’t like this! God is more real than the hands you used to write your e-mail to me; He is more concerned about you and your future than you are. God made you, and He knows all about you. But most of all, God loves you, and He deeply cares what happens to you. No wonder the Psalmist exclaimed, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there” (Psalm 139:7-8).

How do I know God cares for us? One reason is because of the way He provides for our needs. But most of all, I know it because of Jesus Christ. He was God in human flesh, and He came down from heaven for one reason: to make it possible for our sins to be forgiven so we could go to heaven when we die. The Bible says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

What is keeping you from giving your life to Christ? Is it pride, or some sin you don’t want to give up? Don’t let anything keep you from Christ, but give your life to Him today.
