Q:

I know you'll tell me God loves me, but you don't know how much hurt I've caused and what a terrible person I've been. I know I need God and I wish I could believe He loves me, but I just can't.

A:

Yes, I will tell you that God loves you — and the reason is because it’s true! You may not believe it… you may feel you don’t deserve it… but it’s still true.

How do I know God loves you, in spite of all you’ve done? One reason is because He tells us in His Word that He loves us. From one end of the Bible to the other, God’s love for the human race is constant — although we don’t deserve it. The Bible says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3). Yes, God says He loves you — and God cannot lie.

But I know God loves you most of all because He sent His only Son into the world to give His life for you. Imagine you were walking down the street one day and a truck veered out of control toward you. But then suppose someone jumped into the truck’s path and shoved you out of the way — but lost his life as a result. Wouldn’t you be grateful for his sacrifice?

And that’s what Jesus Christ did for us. We were under the sentence of death because of our sins — but Jesus Christ intervened and took upon Himself the death we deserved. Why did He do this? He did it out of love, so we could be with Him in heaven forever. Pause right now and thank God for His love and forgiveness. Then commit your life to Christ and ask Him to help you follow Him every day.
