Q:

I met a man on a cruise several months ago and I really thought we were in love. But now he's written to say he can't see me anymore because he's married. I'm so crushed. I admit I'm angry at God for getting me into this.

Instead of being angry at God, shouldn’t you be thankful to Him for helping you find out the truth about this person?

After all, if this relationship had continued, there’s no way to measure how much misery it would have caused eventually. No matter what happened, someone would have been deeply hurt. If this man decided to leave his family and marry you, he would have left a trail of heartbreak behind him; if he decided to break off your relationship, your hurt would have been even greater than it is now. The Bible wisely says, “I find more bitter than death the woman (or man) who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains” (Ecclesiastes 7:26).

The most important thing I can urge you to do is to seek God’s will for your life and your future (including your relationships). Begin by turning to Christ and by faith asking Him to come into your life. Then commit every area of your life into His hands. If it is His will for you to marry, trust Him to lead you to a man who puts Christ first in his life and honestly seeks His will above all else.

When we give ourselves to Christ, we become part of a family–the family of God. Give your life to Christ, and then become active in a church where Christ is preached and lived. Not only will you grow spiritually, but you’ll also find friends you can trust.
