Q:

I thought I had gotten off of drugs, and I did for a while (after I got married). But then the marriage went bad and now I'm back in the same rut. I know it's destroying me but I can't do anything about it. I've been through rehab twice but it didn't stick. Please pray for me.

A:

You have taken the first step by admitting you have a problem, and that you can’t solve it by yourself. Tragically, many people never admit this – but you have, and that should encourage you.

Now, take the second step by turning to Jesus Christ and putting your life totally into His hands. Don’t just ask Him to help you; ask Him to take over your whole life. God knows all about your problems – and He is more concerned about you than you are. But He still loves you – just as you are – and wants to forgive you and help you. The Bible says, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Does this mean all your problems and temptations will suddenly vanish if you accept Christ? No, not necessarily; in fact, the devil will do everything he can to turn you away from God. But don’t listen to him! The Bible says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:7-8).

Then share your problems privately with your pastor or another knowledgeable Christian. They will be able to recommend where you can get help if you need counseling or a support group to help you break free of the grip of drugs. May God bless you.
