Q:

I'm 7 years old and would like to know what God is like. Is He like my grandfather? My grandfather died and went to heaven last year. He was very kind and I miss him.

A:

I’m sorry your grandfather died, but I’m thankful you have good memories of him. I’m also thankful you know he’s in heaven. Jesus promised, “I am going there to prepare a place for you … that you also may be where I am” (John 14:2-3).

What is God like? For one thing, God is powerful—far more powerful than we are, and far more powerful than anything we can imagine. Go outside some night and look up at the stars—thousands of them, and millions more you can’t see. God made them all! He is that powerful.

God also knows everything about the world, and everything about us. Your grandfather probably knew much about the world because he lived a long time. But God knows everything! He knows what we’re doing, and even what we are thinking. The Bible says, “Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord” (Psalm 139:4).

But the most important thing I want to tell you about God is that He loves us. I’m sure your grandfather loved you; you probably felt his love every time you saw him. But God loves you even more! He loves you so much that He wants you to be part of His family in heaven forever.

And I hope you will become part of God’s family today, by asking Jesus to come into your life. He loves you and wants to be your friend forever. Open your heart to Him today.
