Q:

I'm confused, because on Easter our pastor said that not only will our souls go to be with God, but we'll also be given new bodies in heaven. Is this in the Bible? Why would we need new bodies there?

A:

Yes, the Bible tells us that in heaven we’ll be given new and glorious bodies. They’ll be like Jesus’ body after His resurrection, and they’ll never age or get sick or die. The Bible says, “Just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven (Jesus Christ)” (1 Corinthians 15:49).

This, after all, was the way God originally meant for us to be. Adam and Eve weren’t meant to die; they were meant to live forever, in perfect fellowship with God. But something went wrong — and that “something” was sin. They fell for Satan’s lies, believing they’d be equal to God if they obeyed Satan. As a result, sin entered the world — and with it came death. As the Bible says, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

That isn’t the end of the story, however. God loves us and developed a way to restore us to the perfect fellowship He meant for us to have. That way is Jesus Christ, who by His death and resurrection opened the way to heaven for us. And we won’t be disembodied spirits floating around there; we’ll have bodies that can serve Him (see Revelation 22:3).

Is your hope in Christ? Are you certain that if you were to die tonight, you would go to be with Him forever? Make sure of your salvation by turning to Christ in repentance and faith, and trusting Him alone to save you.
