Q:

I'm sure people like you are sincere when you quote the Bible to support your views, but I think you can prove anything from the Bible if you try hard enough. I've even heard that you can "prove" from the Bible that the devil is a Christian. Is this true?

A:

No, it isn’t true; not one word in the Bible can be twisted to suggest the devil is actually a disciple or follower of Jesus.

The opposite is the case, in fact; the Bible says Satan is God’s enemy, and is constantly looking for ways to destroy God’s people (see 1 Peter 5:8). He and his agents believe God exists and know what He is like — but their belief will never save them, because they refuse to commit their lives to Him. The Bible says, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that — and shudder” (James 2:19).

It’s true people can ignore or distort what the Bible clearly teaches, trying to make it say something it doesn’t actually say. But the Bible is God’s Word — and because of that, we can trust what it says. When we approach it prayerfully and with an open heart and mind, God will help us understand it. The Bible says, “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless” (Psalm 18:30).

I can’t help but wonder, however, why you’ve asked this question. Is it because you are trying to find an excuse to keep God out of your life? Don’t turn your back on Him, but discover instead the riches He has for you in His Word. Most of all, discover the riches He has for you in Jesus Christ, who gave His life so you could become part of His family forever.
