Q:

Maybe this is kind of a weird question, but if there is intelligent life on other planets (as some scientists think), should we try to send missionaries someday to tell them about Jesus?

A:

Are there intelligent beings elsewhere in the universe? The Bible doesn’t say one way or the other, but if there are, God created them and watches over them, just as He created us and watches over us.

And if they have rebelled and turned against God (as we have), I have no doubt that God will provide the means for their salvation — just as He did for us by sending His Son from heaven to become the final and complete sacrifice for our sins. And God could also be trusted to provide the means for them to hear the message of salvation in a way they can understand — just as He has for us. Our responsibility is for this world, not for some distant planet we could never reach because of its vast distance from us.

All of this is speculation, however, and I urge you not to get too absorbed in such questions. Instead, ask God to help you realize just how great He is. The universe is incredibly vast — so vast we can’t begin to comprehend it. And yet God created it all, and it all bears witness to His glory and power. The Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

But the Bible tells us an even greater truth: God not only created us, but He also loves us. He loves us so much that He wants us to spend eternity with Him in heaven. Make sure of your eternal salvation by putting your life into Christ’s hands today.
