Turn to God During Times of Adversity

I have a physical disability that the doctor says will eventually cripple me. I can't face this. You'll probably tell me to turn to God, but what good will that do? God isn't going to heal me. I don't think He even cares.

God knows all about your situation, and I want to assure you that He knows your frustration and even your anger. But He also loves you, and because He loves you He wants to help you and encourage you every day. The Bible says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Let me ask you a question: Will it be better for you to go through life’s hard times with God—or without Him? Without Him you’ll be left to your own resources—but are they enough to see you through the struggles you’re likely to face? I think you know the answer. Tragically, you would end up facing the future “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12).

But it doesn’t need to be this way! God loves us—and we know this not because life is perfect, but because He sent His only Son into the world to give us hope. Jesus would never have gone to the cross and given His life for you if God didn’t love you. But He does love you, and through Christ’s death and resurrection you can have hope—hope today, and hope for eternity.

By a simple prayer of faith ask Christ to come into your life today. Then thank Him for His love for you, and learn to experience His presence every day. God’s promise is for you: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. … The Lord is my helper” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Have you trusted Christ with everything?
