Q:

What will we look like when we get to heaven? Will we just be spirits or something like that, floating around from place to place but not being anything solid?

A:

No, in heaven we won’t be disembodied spirits “floating around from place to place” (as you suggest), without any physical form or substance. Some religions do teach this, but the Bible tells us something far different.

Instead, the Bible tells us that when God’s plan for the ages is complete and all evil is eliminated, we will be given new bodies – bodies that will be like Christ’s body after His resurrection. The Bible doesn’t say exactly what they will look like, but our new bodies will no longer be subject to sickness or pain or death, and we will be able to serve God in ways we never could have imagined. The Bible says that on that final day “the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52).

The most important fact about heaven, however, is that we will be in God’s presence forever. Think of it: “And so we will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)! Never again will we be bothered by sorrow or disappointment or heartache, and we will be safe and secure with Christ through all eternity. Satan will be bound forever, and all creation will sing God’s praises.

Is this your hope? Do you know for certain that if you were to die tonight, you would go into God’s presence forever? You can know, by trusting Christ for your salvation and committing your life to Him. Open your heart and life to Jesus Christ today.
