Q:

Why do Christians (at least the ones I know who take their faith seriously) say Jesus is the only way to God? As far as I'm concerned, that's intolerant and narrow-minded.

A:

Those of us who are Christians should never be unloving or harsh toward those who don’t believe the way we do. In fact, we should be the opposite — because we know God loves the whole world and sent His Son to save the world. As the Bible says, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:17).

One reason Christians believe Jesus Christ is the only way to God is because He Himself said so. This was a bold claim, and — like today — not everyone accepted it. But His words couldn’t have been clearer: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Was this arrogance on His part? Or was He deluded or mentally unbalanced (as some contended)? Was He even deliberately claiming this, although He knew it was a lie? No, none of these is accurate. Instead, Jesus claimed to be the only way to God for one reason: He was the divine Son of God, sent by God from heaven to save us from our sins. He proved this by dying and then coming back to life again, by the power of God.

Thank God that He didn’t leave us without hope — hope for today, and hope for eternity. Don’t let your pride, or anything else, keep you from Christ. God loves you, and life’s greatest joy comes from knowing Christ and living for Him.
