Q:

Why doesn't Jesus come back to earth, like He promised He was going to do? It seems like there's so much evil in the world now, and all our problems would be solved if He'd just hurry up and come back.

A:

One of the Jesus’ greatest promises was that some day He would return to wipe out all the evils of this world, and rule over it in perfect peace and justice. The Bible says, “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory” (Matthew 25:31). We can barely imagine this – but it’s true!

Why, then, doesn’t Jesus come right now? Why has His second coming been delayed for so long? The Bible gives us the reason: “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). God wants to give the human race as much time as possible to wake up and turn to Him in repentance and faith – because He loves us and doesn’t want anyone to be lost. What if Christ had decided to come the day before you repented and gave your life to Him?

But we must never take His patience for granted, or assume that we can ignore Him now because we’ll still have a second chance to commit our lives to Him. We don’t know how long we’ll have before Christ returns; it could be tomorrow. Or death may snatch us away at any moment. The Bible says, “Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Make sure of your commitment to Christ. Then ask Him to help you live for Him every day. God has you here for a purpose. Make it your goal to find His plan for your life – and then do it.
