Philip’s Story

Philip* was struggling with alcohol. His drinking made him lose control to anger and he was afraid that in this moment of uncontrol, he might hurt a loved one.

Philip knew he needed to stop, but relying on his own strength wasn’t enough. He needed to “seek the Lord and His strength” (1 Chronicles 16:11, NKJV).

That’s when Philip saw one of Franklin Graham’s Gospel TV spots. Desperate for peace, he called our Billy Graham 24/7 Prayer Line and candidly spoke with one of our team members.

TV and Television Ministry

On a weekly basis, Billy Graham Classics programs are shown on Canada’s YES TV Network. During these programs, a toll-free number appears on the screen, giving viewers the chance to call and discuss spiritual questions with one of our trained volunteers. The Franklin Graham TV Gospel Spots have been a part of the ministry since its inception in 1997.

Each spot typically lasts about 60 seconds and features Franklin Graham delivering a Bible verse or a brief devotional message. The aim is to offer hope and a message of encouragement to viewers. At the end of each message, a toll-free number appears inviting viewers who are interested in learning more or in need of spiritual guidance to call.

By Grace You Have Been Saved

“I don’t know if I’m good enough to get to Heaven,” Philip expressed on the call with one of our volunteers. “I’m in the middle but I’m not bad enough for Hell.”

Our volunteer lovingly explained to Philip that no amount of being good will guarantee a way into Heaven. All people have sinned, and we all fall short of God’s perfect standard. However, God’s love and forgiveness are so great that He made a way for us to enter Heaven still. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).

As Philip listened with an open heart and mind, he understood the everlasting message of the Gospel, that “by grace you have been saved through faith” (Ephesians 2:8, NKJV). Only by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, would Philip truly be saved. Not only that, but he would have the strength of God on his side to help him through his struggles.

When our volunteered offered to pray with Philip, he readily agreed. Together they prayed, and Philip received Jesus into his heart. We praise God for this new brother in Christ!
