The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada (BGEAC) is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our team!

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is well known for the powerful evangelism and outreach ministry of our founder, Billy Graham.  His mission is our mission: “Proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all we can by every effective means available to us, and equipping others to do the same.”

Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will support our legal function through drafting and proofreading agreements and correspondence; conducting legal and open‑source factual research and preparing memoranda and summaries; managing files and records; supporting due diligence, regulatory compliance, filings, preparing presentations and standard form documents, and triaging routine internal inquiries under counsel’s direction. You will also monitor relevant regulatory and industry developments and assist with issues management and risk monitoring. You will provide reliable administrative support to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in the provision of internal legal services. As an integral member of the Legal Team, this role will help BGEAC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in the daily prayer ministry.

The successful candidate will fill a full-time permanent position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental, and short-term/long-term disability, RRSP contributions after one year of employment, and 15 vacation days per year to start.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with drafting, revising, and proofreading contracts, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Conducts legal and factual research and prepares memoranda, summaries, and briefing notes.
  • Supports document management, including maintaining files, records, and workflow logs.
  • Assists with due diligence, compliance checks, and review of corporate records or regulatory filings.
  • Prepares presentations, reports, and standard form documents for use by Counsel.
  • Receives and responds to routine inquiries from internal teams under direction of Counsel.
  • Assists with the preparation and review of standard documentation (e.g., contract templates, precedents, commercial/charitable legal documents, and letters)
  • Create and maintain a repository for templates and other resources specific to the legal function, as instructed.
  • Helps monitor regulatory and industry developments and prepare summaries.
  • Provides general administrative and team support to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in legal processes.
  • Helps the organization position for public policy and legislative developments, including those pertaining to the organization’s evangelistic mission, charitable purpose, and support of the local church.
  • Supports the Ministry’s objectives and daily operations, supporting counsel in the provision of legal and business advice given to departments and organizational leadership.
  • Communicates regularly with the Head of Legal on anticipated legal and business objectives, seeking early intervention options and context-specific advice to support the organization’s mission.

 Qualifications:

  • In agreement and compliance with the BGEAC Statement of Faith, Code of Personal Conduct and organizational policies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field (or comparable education).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a legal assistant, legal administrative or related role.
  • Experience in a charity/nonprofit setting is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong formal drafting, writing, and document formatting skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in the proofreading of documents and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a legal and/or open-source factual researcher.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, task management, and follow-up skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative team player.
  • Ability to track and oversee the complete life-cycle of 500+ annual files, the setting and meeting of deadlines, and record keeping for all files and inquiries opened.
  • Proven discretion and judgment in handling confidential information.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
