Franklin Graham: Outreach to the World’s Southernmost City Has Been Years in the Making

At the southern tip of Argentina’s Patagonia region, Christian and secular media gathered Friday morning for a press conference with Franklin Graham in Ushuaia, the “city at the end of the world.”

Graham explained that his weekend outreach, the Esperanza Ushuaia Festival, has been many years in the making.

“I was planning to come to your beautiful city in 2020. God had placed it on my heart,” he said. “Some of our team had even come to meet with local churches—and then COVID came.”

Although the pandemic delayed those plans, his desire to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in Ushuaia remained strong. Graham said the opportunity finally came together at the end of 2025.

“When I was preaching in Buenos Aires in November, some pastors from Ushuaia approached me and said, ‘We pray that God will place on your heart a burden to come to Ushuaia.’ I told them, ‘He has already given me that burden—we just need to work out a date.’”

Graham noted that many residents of the city have moved there from other regions in search of better opportunities. Yet, the answers they seek are deeper than they know.

“I believe there is a great spiritual need, and that’s why we are here,” he said. “People are searching, and many are not finding answers to their problems. But our greatest problem is sin.

“Our sins separate us from God. The Bible says that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Pastor Hugo Mullión, who has served in Ushuaia for 43 years, said he’s never seen an opportunity like this before.

“The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has more than 70 years of ministry around the world,” he said. “They are focused on sharing the Gospel—the Good News. There is hope in the message God has for us. It is the message He has proclaimed since the beginning of humanity: that He would send Someone … the person of Jesus Christ.”

Graham expressed confidence that God will use the upcoming outreach to point people to the transforming power of Christ.

“I want the people of Ushuaia to know that they can have a personal relationship with the creator of Heaven. They can know Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

“We are glad to be here. We’re looking forward to Saturday and Sunday to see what God will do in the hearts and lives of many people.”

Will you lift up Ushuaia as residents hear the Good News this weekend? Pray that God will open their hearts and minds to the source of true meaning and fulfillment—Jesus Christ.
