Billy Graham Chaplains Support New Brunswick Community Amidst Overdose Crisis

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) has deployed crisis-trained chaplains to Moncton, New Brunswick, in response to an ongoing overdose crisis that is placing extraordinary pressure on frontline workers throughout the community.

Since the end of May, Moncton has experienced an unprecedented surge in overdose incidents due to a toxic illicit drug supply. The impact on the community has been heartbreaking, with more than 1,100 overdoses during the month of June alone.

In response to the ongoing emergency, our chaplains have been invited to provide spiritual and emotional care for the people who are tirelessly serving their community throughout this crisis. Chaplains are on the ground ministering to paramedics, firefighters, police officers, outreach workers, shelter staff, healthcare professionals, and other frontline personnel who are experiencing exhaustion and the emotional toll of repeated crisis response.

A chaplain met with a group of staff members at a local organization providing shelter, meals, and support for vulnerable people. The staff shared that they are deeply grateful for our BG-RRT chaplains who are providing a ministry of presence, comfort, and hope in Jesus’ Name.

The chaplain encouraged and prayed with the staff, asking God to strengthen and sustain them as they continue helping those in crisis.

Please pray for the Moncton community, the families, and frontline workers. Ask God to bring comfort and healing in the midst of this crisis. We invite you to join us in also praying for:

  • The frontline workers and emergency responders who continue to serve faithfully despite ongoing exhaustion and emotional strain.
  • Those struggling with addiction, and for the families whose lives have been deeply affected by this crisis.
  • Wisdom and endurance for community leaders as they continue coordinating the response.
  • Safety, discernment, and God’s leading for our Rapid Response Team chaplains as they minister throughout Moncton.
  • That the Lord would open doors for meaningful conversations and use our chaplains to bring His comfort, hope, and peace to those who need it most.
