Ukrainian, Polish Pastors Learn How to Share God’s Hope

Ukrainian refugees, and the Polish citizens helping them, desperately needed spiritual and emotional care to deal with the continuing trauma of the Ukraine conflict. Thanks to supporters like you, the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) was able to provide vital training in Jesus’ Name.

“There is a deep need for this in the churches in Poland and surrounding countries, as well as for the temporary Ukraine evacuees,” said Canadian Holly Lafont, who led the two weeks of training in Poland with Nigel Fawcett-Jones, the BG-RRT chaplain manager from the U.K.

Using two translators, Holly and Nigel instructed 32 believers from Poland, Ukraine, Italy, and the Czech Republic with a condensed version of our Sharing Hope in Crisis course. It reveals the basics of helping people in crisis from a Biblical perspective. The goal is for those Christians to take their new knowledge and train others in their home churches.

“Many of them spoke to us of how deeply the material affected them personally and helped in their own healing journey,” Holly noted.

“What I have learnt on this training will help me bring Ukrainians hope during this difficult time, it will point them back to God.”

Since the training finished, “we have heard from several of the newly certified trainers that they have booked—or are planning—events with their churches or other groups. As many as 10 trainings are already booked!”

The Billy Graham Rapid Response team is preparing to host more courses in Poland in October. We praise God for how He is at work through the believers in Ukraine and across Eastern Europe. Please keep praying for them as they share Christ’s love during this time of conflict.
